Salt Lake Center for Engaging Community
Strengthening Communities Together Now - For the Future

Principles of Healthy Community
- Engages in ongoing dialogue
- Generates Leadership everywhere
- Shapes its future through a common vision
- Creates events that bring people together
- Knows itself (is self-reflective)
- Connects people and resources
- Embraces its diversity
- Crosses all boundaries (existing institutions freely share info and resources)
- Is connected to a healthy environment
- Has a vibrant economy
- Has a healthy civic center
- Enjoys a sense of well-being in the personal and in the community
Communities are resilient and flourish when the needs of individuals, community, and the environment are balanced and integrated. As individual and group perspectives are acknowledged and appreciated, a culture of openness is established, and with integral guidance each contribution finds its healthy and helpful expression within the whole. Within such a culture of openness, the capacity for individual well-being and civic growth is enhanced.
SLCEC utilizes best practices from many disciplines and approaches to community resiliency, cultivating an "integral" approach to community transformation and flourishing - "integral" in that all viewpoints are recognized as being necessary, but not fully sufficient in and of themselves in the context of an integral framework, which helps create reinforcing interrelationships among all perspectives.
